Obituary

Lee Margie Jenkins was called home to rest on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 3:14 a.m. at her residence.

 

Mrs. Lee Margie Jenkins embraced Christianity at an early age and was baptized by Rev. McGlory at Morning Star Baptist Church, which later became Shepard of the Hills in Plaucheville, LA. While there she served as Director of the Music Department for many years. She later moved her membership to Golden Chain Baptist Church of Cottonport, LA where her husband served under the leadership of Rev. James L. Sampson. At Golden Chain B.C. she served as Choir President and as Sunday School Teacher Intermediate class, later as Assistant Sunday School Teacher.

 

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Sweet Beulah Chapter No. 63, in Marksville, which is a fraternal organization to which both women and men can join. The Order of the Eastern Star strives to live their lives by the enduring beliefs of brotherly love, relief, and truth, along with certain core values: friendship, community service, diversity, charity, and patriotism, which she embodied.

 

In 2011, Sis. Lee became a member of the Pentecostals of Cottonport (POC), a daughter-works church of the Pentecostals of Alexandria (POA). She was baptized in Jesus name on March 11, 2012 by Rev. Douglas Doyle, under the direction of Pastor Anthony Mangun, Pastor of the POA. She was faithful in her service to the Lord and to the church where she served until her death.

 

Lee was a dedicated worker and took pride in everything she did. She worked as a Lead Cook at Bayou Vista Nursing Home in Bunkie, LA. In the mid-1970s, she was among a few women who went to Virginia one summer and trained to become a heavy machine and equipment operator and later worked with her husband for Merrick Construction Company of Cottonport, LA. She worked as a seamstress at Garan Manufacturing in Marksville, LA. Her last employment was with Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, LA for 7 years. She was the Opening Lead and Founder of the Market Place Buffet Kitchen Staff. She was Lead Cook and Director over the kitchen staff, which was the most productive staff during her tenure. She was a dedicated employee, always had a smile, and was well liked by management and fellow employees.

 

Lee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend who always had a smile. She was a person who cared for people, was loving and always had a kind word for others and would do whatever she could to help people.

 

Mrs. Lee Margie Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Jenkins, Sr., her mother, father, two sisters and a brother. Mourning her departure, yet thanking God for beautiful memories of many years together; she leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter, Joanne Jenkins of Cottonport, LA and a son, Frank (Nouna) Jenkins, Jr. of Dallas, TX; Three sisters: Joyce M. Sutton of Cottonport, LA; Mercedes Allen Yarber of Dallas, TX; Alice M. (Charlie) Graydon of Griffin, GA; one granddaughter; three step-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
