"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46 On June 15,1932 Dorothy Silas Compton was born to the late Elijah and Mattie Silas of Cheneyville, LA. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Grimble at 1st Edgefield Baptist Church. She attended and graduated from Bunkie High School. She later attended Louisiana College in Pineville,LA. She married Floyd W. Compton and to this union was 7 children 1 proceded her in death, Phillip Wayne Compton. She was also proceded in death by her husband Floyd Compton, her parents Elijah and Mattie Silas and her sisters and brothers, Isaac, Rebecca, Laura, Fannie, Margie Nell, Mildred and Hayward. Dorothy was a very active member in church she served as a deaconist in the church, Easten Star, Isaac Rebecca, and the church cafeteria. She was known as the "Frozen Cup Lady" in the community. Dorothy was employed by Sanders Dry Cleaners, Cenla Community Action Headstart for over 50 years, Pinecrest State School for several years, and Senior Citizens of Cheneyville for several years. Mrs. Compton loved family vacations, family reunions, and spending time with her grandkids, family, and friends. Dorothy memories are being cherished by her loving daughters, Pamelia Clark (Daniel) of Houston, TX, Connie Dennis (Micheal) of Houston, TX, Jacqueline Clark (Cedric Sr.) of Lecompte, LA, Paula Edmondson (Donnell) of Sugarland, TX, Saundra Harlan and Artrimese Groves of Cheneyville, LA; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law David Compton (Marie) of Splendora, TX, 2 bonus grandchildren Orelia Roberts and Vincent Roberts (Nikki), a very devoted niece Betty Floyd of Houston, TX, a special friend Betty Thomas of Cheneyville, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
