Lena Marie Snowden Edison, affectionately known as “Mimi,” was born on February 17,1947 in Cheneyville, Louisiana, to the late Lucille Martin Snowden and William Snowden, Sr.
At an early age, Lena accepted Christ and became a member of Boonville United Methodist Church. She had a deep love for the Word of God, gospel music, and good preaching. She
never met a stranger and was never shy about telling anyone just how good God had been to her. Truly, Lena was a walking miracle, time and time again, right up until the Lord called her
home.
On Friday, October 3, 2025, at 6:46pm, while surrounded by her loved ones at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, Lena peacefully transitioned from this
life to her eternal home. In that sacred moment, it was as though a divine peace filled the room, and God whispered, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.”
Lena was a woman of many talents, skills, and accomplishments. She proudly performed many roles, as well as worked with the Louisiana Department of Corrections and the Avoyelles Parish
Sheriff’s Department, from which she retired from both. She actively served in her community as much as she could, when she could. She was the kind of person if she was in your corner
you could count on her to lend a helping hand or at least tell you how to get the job done right. Her glowing skin, radiant face and smile could brighten any room. If she liked you, she made
sure you knew it; you were welcomed into her circle as one of her own. Lena’s legacy lives on through her children: Zertrena (Zell) Washington, Kenneth (Ashley)
Washington, Patrick (Felicia) Washington, and Latasha (Travis Sr.) Johnson; her stepson, Otis Edison Jr.; her brothers, Rufus (Cathy) Snowden and William (Sadie) Snowden Jr.; and her
sister, Ora Lee Guillory. She also leaves behind three godchildren, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends who loved her
dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Snowden Sr. and Lucille Martin Snowden; her brothers, Willie Snowden Sr. and Benjamin Snowden; and her sister, Vera Snowden.
Lena “Mimi” Snowden Edison will be remembered for her strength, her faith, her laughter, and her heart of gold. She like any other had her ways but she was a beautiful, kindhearted woman,
an inspiration to many, a giver and an example of tenacity in human form. To know her was to love her and to be loved by her was a blessing that will never be forgotten.
