Lemoyen - Joseph Chambers Sr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 85.
He was born on March 15, 1939, in Lemoyen, a place that held a special place in his heart throughout his entire life. He was a resident of Lemoyen all his life and lived on Cook Lane for more than 30 years.
Joseph was a man of simple pleasures and had a lot oflove for his family, neighbors, and friends. He found joy in working in his garden, a passion he cultivated for over 50 years. Thanks to Joseph's green thumb there was usually an abundance of homegrown fruit and vegetables, which he proudly shared with neighbors and family. Thanks to Joseph's dedication to his garden, there was always something fresh and delicious for dinner at the Chambers house.
Joseph also never started his day without his early morning cup of coffee, finding solace and comfort in its warmth. He also enjoyed going out for a seasonal hunt and spending quality time with the people he loved.
Joseph could often be found and heard, engaging in lively banter, and was known for his cantankerous fussing about anything and everything, with any and everyone. His spirited nature brought many fond memories of laughter and joy to those around him.
Joseph enjoyed Zydeco music and could often be found tapping his foot to its lively rhythms. He found soulfulhappiness in the melodies that filled his days.
In addition to his hobbies, Joseph's impact on the lives of others was immeasurable. Despite his occasional grumbling, he was always there to lend a helping handto those in need.
He was a faithful servant and lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he actively participated as an usher when his health allowed.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton and Gertrude (Tanner) Chambers, his wife Alberta (Ford) Chambers, a daughter, Jacqueline Chambers, a son, Robert Chambers, and his sisters Gertrude Herd and Vera Blueitt.
He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, his children: daughter Bertha Ann Martin (Warren) of Seattle, WA; two sons, Joseph Chambers, Jr. of Bunkie, LA, and Wilton Chambers of Lansing, MI; two brothers, Wilson Chambers (Trenda) of Lemoyen, LA; and Whitney Chambers of Opelousas, LA; 11 loving grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends who will hold dear the memories they shared with him.
Joseph Chambers Sr. will be dearly missed yet fondly remembered for the dedication he had to family, his passion for gardening, and his cantankerously loving spirit.
Joseph’s children, neighbors, and family spent time with him; he knew that he was loved. Let this time not all be a time of mourning but let it truly be a celebration of life. Celebrating the long life of a man who touched many and lived an existence filled with family, friends, and a community who loved and respected him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 am followed by a memorial service at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in LeBeau, Louisiana.
The family of Joseph Chambers Sr. would like to take a moment and humbly thank all those who thought of us, prayed for/with us, cried with/for us, guided us, sent a text, made a call, drove here, flew here, and or contributed in any way.
